September gets off to a funny start tonight as award-winning comedian Sara Pascoe headlines Chuckl. St Albans at the Alban Arena.

She’ll be joined by a supporting line-up for an evening of stand-up right in the heart of the city. A great excuse to leave the sofa behind and start the weekend with a laugh.

Saturday 5 September | The Maltings Theatre

For something a little more relaxed, Maestro Mark Jennings brings an evening of Spanish and classical guitar favourites to The Maltings Theatre.

Tucked away in the city centre, The Maltings Theatre is one of those local venues that helps give St Albans its varied cultural scene, with an ever-changing programme of theatre, music and performance.

The Smyths

Friday 11 September | Alban Arena

Fans of The Smiths can head back to the Alban Arena when tribute band The Smyths come to St Albans.

The band has been celebrating the music of The Smiths for more than 20 years, so expect an evening packed with familiar favourites for anyone who still knows all the words.

Escape to the City Music Festival

Saturday 12 September, 2 pm–9 pm | The Pioneer Club

The Pioneer Club hosts Escape to the City, an afternoon and evening dedicated to indie, alternative rock and alt-pop.

Artists will perform across two stages from 2 pm until 9 pm, making this a great addition to the city’s September music calendar and another chance to support live music in St Albans.

Monday 14 – Sunday 20 September | St Albans City Centre

Now, this is one we couldn’t leave off the list!

Homes and Interiors Week celebrates the wealth of interiors, homeware and design businesses found across St Albans city centre, with participating businesses offering special promotions and plenty of inspiration throughout the week.

Home, I’m Darling

Friday 18 – Saturday 26 September | Abbey Theatre

Laura Wade’s award-winning comedy Home, I’m Darling comes to the Abbey Theatre later this month.

The play follows one couple’s attempt to embrace the seemingly idyllic domestic life of the 1950s and takes a funny, thought-provoking look at relationships, nostalgia and what it really means to be happy.

The Abbey Theatre has been part of St Albans' life for generations and is another reminder of just how much local entertainment we have within easy reach.

St Albans Beer & Cider Festival 2026

Wednesday 23 – Saturday 26 September | Alban Arena

A firm fixture in the St Albans calendar, the Beer & Cider Festival returns to the Alban Arena for four days at the end of September.

Visitors can expect an extensive selection of real ales, ciders and perries alongside live entertainment, with Half Life and The Bear Pit Band among the acts scheduled to perform.

Whether you’re a seasoned real-ale enthusiast or simply enjoy the atmosphere, this long-running festival is always a popular date in the local diary.
