Summer isn’t over quite yet!
With three days to enjoy before September arrives, the August Bank Holiday weekend is the perfect excuse to make the most of what’s happening right here on our doorstep.
From fairground fun and live music to leisurely walks and pub gardens, plenty is happening around St Albans and Harpenden from Saturday 29th to Monday 31st August.
Harpenden
One last hurrah for summer 🎡
Harpenden is rounding off its summer programme in style, with the Harpenden Summer Funfair taking over Rothamsted Park.
Running from Thursday 27th August through to Bank Holiday Monday, the funfair opens from 1 pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, giving families plenty of opportunity to squeeze in some traditional fairground fun before the school term begins.
It follows a summer packed with events in Harpenden, making the Bank Holiday weekend a fitting finale.

St Albans
Music, food and Bank Holiday fun 🎶
Over in St Albans, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the long weekend. The Beehive Big Weekender begins on Saturday 29th August, with a weekend of DJs, live music, a BBQ and outdoor games. There’s more live music at Mad Squirrel, with Luke Carey performing on Saturday evening and The Cherry Valentines on Sunday afternoon.
Music fans also have King Hammond with BuBounce at The Pioneer Club and Nirvanah at The Horn on Saturday night, while Sunday afternoon brings the free Blue Angel Acoustic Cafe to The Horn.
You may also spot a few particularly energetic people making their way around the city on Sunday! The St Albans Sixer, a six-mile run taking in six local pubs, returns on 30th August. The event is already sold out, but it should add a little extra Bank Holiday atmosphere around town.
Or simply take it easy… ☀️
Of course, a long weekend doesn’t have to mean filling every minute.
Pack a picnic and head to Verulamium Park, wander around St Albans Cathedral and the historic city centre, enjoy the open spaces at Rothamsted Park or Heartwood Forest, find a sunny pub garden or simply fire up the BBQ at home.
After all, sometimes the best Bank Holiday plans are the ones that involve very little planning at all.
Making the most of where we live
At Bradford & Howley, we love being part of the St Albans and Harpenden communities, and weekends like this are a lovely reminder of just how much there is to enjoy locally. However you choose to spend the August Bank Holiday, we hope you have a wonderful long weekend and manage to squeeze every last drop out of summer.
