First impressions count! Make sure you read our tips on how to prepare your house for a quick sale!
First impressions count as they say! So when preparing your house to be put on the market, it makes sense to do a check on the outside and give it a tidy up if needed. We all know how many bins we have these days, but if the recycling boxes can be tucked down the side of the house - it won’t be the first thing your potential buyer will see. Give the grass a cut and windows/doors a clean too so everything looks as it should. What’s next? De-clutter your possessions. There’s nothing wrong with a house looking ‘lived-in’ but take some time to slimline your belongings. Take for example the kitchen; if you’re a bit of a foodie and have appliances galore on the side, maybe remove one or two to give the kitchen a more spacious feel. People love workspace so let them imagine their own appliances and gadgets. Likewise, if you’ve got children and it’s toy heaven in the lounge, you may want to invest in a few storage boxes to quickly hide away dinosaurs and dolls that may not appeal to your potential buyer.
Don’t underestimate a fresh scent to make a buyer happy. It’s not a myth that freshly baked bread and coffee will entice someone to fall in love with your home. Consider having some diffusers dotted around to give a sense of freshness - just don’t make it overwhelmingly strong as it could backfire!
Plants and fresh flowers will also give a positive vibe to your home. If you’d rather not spend money each week on a new bunch of blooms, buy a house plant instead. Succulents are perfect for this - easy to maintain and last forever! We also love a basil plant for the kitchen - just remember to keep the plants watered so they don’t look unloved.
Remember to make the beds and tidy away clothes. It will make the rooms feel more spacious and appealing to the onlooker. Plus no one really wants to have their laundry on show do they?
Whilst you don’t want to take away your personality from the home, you want to allow the potential buyer to imagine themselves moving in. Making a few small adaptations to your property and giving it a spring clean may help speed up the sale and grab the attention from a prospective buyer in no time.
