LIAM - MISSING NORMALITY

At the moment the saying “you don’t know what you have until its gone” probably rings true for many of us. We are no doubt all missing many things we fail to realise the true value of until they are missing from our day to day lives. In the current corona virus crisis I know some of these don’t compare to our family, friends, health and wellbeing but it doesn’t mean we can’t acknowledge the fact that we are so lucky to live in such a fantastic area and we miss key aspects that our local community gives us without even realising.

I have lived in Southdown with my wife Kate and our little boy Harrison for a number of years and we love this part of Harpenden. Not only are we fortunate to have a great group of friends and family that live close by, Harrison also goes to the fantastic school The Grove, we have an allotment at the top of Dark Lane all on the doorstep of where we live.

It has felt really strange that the usual buzz and energy you can see and feel on a daily basis that flows from the great selection of shops we have in the heart of Southdown be replaced with an quiet silence as we all support the NHS and stay at home. I have missed all the joy and support they bring to my life on a weekly basis whether it’s a Saturday treat with a cooked breakfast at TK’s Café, a fresh loaf or bread from Simmons, a coffee at Jays, a haircut at Alessandra’s or a pint in the sunshine at The Plough to name just a few.

As the corona virus continues to affect us all I wanted to say thank you to the few local shops that have stayed open in line with Government Guidance to continue to help and support us with our day to day needs.

Until we can return to normality, I will continue to do my bit and stay home to support the NHS.

I would love to hear what you are missing about your neighbourhood.
